Question of the Week for February 7, 2011

Using the link on the left of the screen for Ticketmaster please find a concert you would like to suggest as a fieldtrip for the Wilmot Instrumental Music Department. It needs to be in either Chicago or Milwaukee. Once you find one answer the following questions:
1. When
2. Where
3. What is the name of the ensemble?
4. How much does it cost per student?
5. This is the most important...why should we go to this particular concert? "Because this is a great band" is not a sufficent answer.
I've answered this question of the week first. Use my answer as a model for yours.

1. February 15, 2011 10:30 - 11:30 AM
2. Marcus Center for the Performing Arts, Milwaukee, WI
3. Milwuakee Symphony Orchestra
4. $5.00
5. I believe the Wilmot Band and Orchestra should attend this concert for three reasons: 1. The Milwuakee Symphony MSO, is one of the world's greatest orchestras. On the world stage the MSO has traveled and recorded extensively. Their new musical director Edo DeWart is an internationally recognized conductor. 2. The music the MSO will perform at this concert is composed by great American composers including Morton Gould and George Gershwin. 3. The historical significance of these composers and the music they have created is extremely important to the history of the United States of America.

2. Mayne Stage, Chicago, IL
3. Windy City Performing Arts - Bon Voyage!
4. $10.00
5. I think the Wilmot Instrumental Music Department should go to this concert because when I looked the concert up online, the website said that the music played was classical and I think it would be interesting to go and hear and be exposed to a different type of music that not many kids listen to including myself.

4. Could not find
5. I believe the Wilmot Orchestra and Band should go to this concert because it would be a new and different experience. We would hear music that is out of the ordinary symphony orchestra range.

2.Mayne stage, Chicago Illnois
3.Windy city for the Performing arts presents Bon Voyage
4. 10.00
5. I think we shoul attend this concert because mos kids listen to rap, pop, or rock these days. Even in band we play mostly 1 to three page concert band music. If we went to this, we could get a whole new exprience that most people dont get to listen to classical music. most of us dont listen to it on a regular basis, but when we do we all like it cause it sounds sweet. For a band like us, if we went to it, we also exprience a new form of music or listen to some pieces and a band none of us might have heard before, perhaps even like the pieces and want to play them.

1. March 18, 2011 8:00 PM
2. Viper Alley-Lincolnshire, IL
3. Victor Wooten Band
4. $35
5. Victor Wooten is one of, if not the greatest bassists of all time, and then rest of his band his not far behind. I think this would be a great concert to go see because it would show the students how good they can be if they are willing to put the time and work into it.

1. February 28, 2011, at 6:00 pm
2. House of Blues, Chicago, Illinois
3. Plain White T's, with Parachute, and miggs
4. $28.87
5. I think the Wilmot Band and Orchestra should go to this concert because the Plain White T's are a current band and it will give us, the students, an opportunity to broaden the types of music we listen to. Being in orchestra or band, we hear a lot of music that was composed in the 1700s, 1500s etc or anywhere around those time periods (at least in orchestra), so attending a concert that is filled with more popular music could inspire us. And, who doesn't like the Plain White T's?!?!

2. Briar Street Theater
3. Blue Man Group
4. $49-$59 Balcony View
5. The wilmot band should go to see this group because this group is the essense of audience involvement and really shows various and creative forms of music that entertain thousands of people. It really shows how music comes in many different forms and can really please any type of audience.

1. Sunday March 6th, 2011 11:00 AM
2. Mayne Stage, Chicago Illinois
3. Rush Hour Encores: Eulcid Quartet
4. couldn't find
5. I think this would be a good group for the Wilmot Band to go see because it's 4 guys that all play the violin and we can see what they do with the music they play and be able to see how they work together and things like that. We also don't get to see string performances that much, so it would be fun.

2. Vogel Hall, Marcus Center, Milwaukee, WI
3. Dublin's Irish Cabaret
4. $41.75
5. At Wilmot, we usually never encounter music like this. We play classical music, marches, and the occasional pop song, but folk music is another important fundamental genre of music that we should be familiarized with.

1. Saturday, April 4th
2. Milwaukee Theatre WI 500 West Kilbourn Avenue, Milwaukee, WI 53203
3. Rock of Ages Musical
4. $37.25
5. I think the Wilmot Band should see this musical because it can help pep band students relate to the music we play. Also, students can better appreciate
the kind of music their parents listen to in the car.

1. Friday 4/22/11
2. Eagles Club/The Rave/Eagles Ballroom Milwaukee, WI
3.All Time Low
4.$20.00 - $25.00
5. I believe that Wilmot Band should see them because when you hear the word "Music" it means all kinds of music wheather it be Jazz, Classical, Alternitive, Punk, or Rock. What most band directors teach is Classical, when they should be teaching all kinds of musics and styles. This would be a nice change of pace for a lot of students, and that is kind of what music is, finding different styles and "analyzing" I guess you could say.
