Question of the Week for September 27th, 2010
Please give yourself a grade for the first semester of Wind Ensemble, Band or Orchestra. Please tell me why you gave yourself the grade you did. What are you going to do to deserve the grade you gave yourself? Now, stick to it or excel above your expectations. We'll check later to see if you were right.

I would give myself an "A" because I practice all of the music almost everyday and participate in all required performances. I always come prepared and try to do my best to improve.
-Mikaela C.-
I would give myself an A- because I do everything that is required of me fairly well and with a good attitude. I would not give myself an A though because I do not practice.
Becky Hinz
I would give myself an A because I feel that I practice my music and excell to do my best. I attend the pep-band performances and come prepared to rehersals. I enjoy the vibe that is spread through out the band when we all work hard to improve.
-Angela N.-
I would give myself an "A+" because I practice every week for at least an hour and I always try my best to be focused and give ym 110% for the band. Some parts in the music may be challenging but I work at it until I get it. I also ask questions if I don't understand something instead of teaching myself something wrong. I will take any tips/help to get there.
-Alicia D.
I would give myself an A. Overall,I practice my songs and warm-up exercises almost every week. If I don't understand something, I'm sure to ask someone for help. I think the last reason why I would give myself an A would be because I have fun in orchestra and I try my best :)
*~Aimee O.~*
I would give myself an "A" because I work hard to do my best in band and always turn in my practice sheets with a full one point. The only reason why my grade could lower a bit is because I cannot attend any pep bands because of my cheerleading at the games on friday.
Abby D.
I would give myself an "A" because I come to all the Pep Bands, I practice constantly, and I play the music correctly. I will make sure that I continue to work hard on the music that I will eventually come accross.
Andrew Barman
I would give myself an A because I practice my clarinet almost everyday and have gone to every pep band. I don't understand what football is but i still go. I have worked very hard on memorising all my music and the HOmecomming parade was a HUGE sucess for me because i practiced like crazy trying to get the 8 step count right!! I would practice even harder.
~Beth Barman
I would give myself an "A-" in band right now. I have a good attitude towards the music, my section, and the band as a whole. I try to perform at my best, know my music well and learn new things as I go.
~Rebecca F
I would give myself an A- because I always come to class prepared and ready to work. I bring a positive attitude and constantly try my best to improve. However, I don't practice outside of class as much as I should.
I would give myself an A because I practice when I can, I learn something new in class every day, and I put my whole heart into doing my best.
I would give myself a "B"..because I feel that I try my best in class..and although I practice outside of class, on some occassions I do forget to practice. Therefore, I am not exceeding to my ability or potential...and that is why I give myself a "B"
-Shelby S.
I would give myself an "A' because I push myself to do the best of my ability and do everything that is required of me.
Sarah Raupp
I would give myself an "A" because I try to do the best I can in the peices that we are currently working on in class right now.
I would give myself an A-. I consider myself a dedicated band & orchestra student - I come to every performance and rehearsal prepared, including extra ones that are not required. I also try my best in class with all of the music we're given and tried to be a leader while we were marching. However, while I do practice my violin, I rarely practice my trombone and therefore do not deserve an A or an A+.
-Kenzie T
I would give myself an A- because I come to band everyday with a good attitude and wanting to be there and I enjoy playing the music. I only give myself an A- though because I do not practice as much as I should.
-Stephen Mattox
I would give myself an A right now because I come to class ready to go and happy to be playing music, and thus far I haven't had to practice much of the music because it was mostly marching, but now that we have ensemble pieces I have been taking more time to look at the music and work things out.
I would give myself an A- because I think that I try my best during class and I do what is required. I wouldn't give myself anything higher than this grade because I think that I don't practice as much as I should.
Sydney V.
I would have given myself an "a" because i have worked hard to be where i am in the band, and i practice and practice to make my musical capabilities be ever stronger and more wonderful.
--Nick Leptich
I would like to say that I would give myself an A but then I would be lying. I honestly would give myself a B or a C. (An A during class and a B or C outside of class.) Because even though I participate during Orchestra class, trying to do my best and play my heart out, but outside of class I do nothing of the sort. I just simply don't practice or put much effort into trying to practice-it's low on my to-do list.
My honesty is refreshing, no? Hahaha ;)
I would give myself and "A" because I always give band my all. I am always at all of the concerts and at most of the pepbands. I practice almost every weekend and always out my heart and soul into my music.
I would gine my self an A Because i come ready to play and work hard every day. I am going to make sure i practice and do the best i can.
Taylor T
I would give myself an A+! Haha I'm just kidding Mr. Sorenson. Honestly I probably only deserve about a C+, because I know that I am not playing at my full potential. This year is extra busy for me, and I'm sorry for saying this, but band is not my top priority. I really do enjoy being in band, and I can play and enjoy most of the music that you give to us, but there are other things that are more important for my future that I need to take care of first.
I would give myself an A- in band for this semester. Mainly because I do everything asked of me, work hard in class, and practice the dances for colorguard. However, I would give myself the minus because I am just now doing the questions of the week for I forgot about them.
~Hailee Rosol
I would have to give myself a A- mainly because of the lack of practicing (but we can't all be perfect). However, I do believe that because I have an understanding of the music, stylistic elements in the score and I come to class ready to play everyday that I should deserve such a grade.
I would give myself an "A" because I have followed directions, did what I was supposed to do without having to be told, and have always participated to the best of my ability.
Ashley D.
I would give myself a solid A. I mean, playing music is what I want to do for the rest of my life, so it would only make sense that I try my hardest and do everything I have to in order to stay on top of things.
I would only give myself a B. I don't practice like I should because I'm too busy playing my guitars at home instead of my trumpet.
Jason Boss
I would give myself an A because I am always ready to play on time and always have my music. I also practice the music, so I know I am never behind in trying to figure out how the pieces go.
Amanda T.
i would give myself a C because i've been forgetting to do the questions of the week untill now. but besides that, i'm doing good.
I would give myself probably a "B" because i don't practice outside of school, which i should start doing, but i do participate during the rehearsal but the only problem is that i dont practice.
I would give myself an A because I do quite a bit of practicing outside of school, and I also work hard during class. It is my primary goal to play to the very best of my ability.
-Steph VK
I would give myself an "A" because I come prepared and I always try my best when we are sightreading. I also try to help the freshman out during pep band.
-Maddie Ostrander :D
I would give myself a "B" because I do not practice very much outside of school. I do attend all of my required after school activities and I participate in class.
Nick Geyer, 7th hour
I would give myself a B. I barely can play my instrument. Part of the reason i just started at the end of last year. I try my best to participate in class. I can't read music very well. I usually have to write it in. Other than that i try my best to get to all the performances.
I would give myself an A. I have been working hard and have been doing everything I can to get good grades and stay on top of things. I practice my music and turn in practice sheets every week as well. I also come to band with a positive attitude and ask for extra help if I don't get something. However sometimes I can be scatterbrained and I need to work on controlling myself more in band and staying focused.
- Alyssa Schaller -
I would give myself an "A" because I try my best to play the music correctly and I try to participate when I know what the answer is. Also, I try to excel in the music and to do that I practice when I have the chance.
Tara Steffen
For this semester, i would give myself a B+. I would give myself this grade because i tried my best during band practices and marching practices. I however, did not practice all that much. I do take time to anaylaze my music for any unfamiliar rythms or notes. I will keep paying attention and try to practice more.
*hannah k.
I would give myself a B+ did the questions of the week showed up and worked at class but no pratice journal
I would give myself and A- because I practice hard, study the music and try my best, but don't take the music home to practice every week.
I would give myself and A- because I practice hard, study the music and try my best, but don't take the music home to practice every week.
Andrew S
I would give myself an A-, because although I work hard and pay attention during class, I don't practice every weekend.
-Gillian Johnson-
I would give myself an "A-" because I showed up to pep band and I worked hard in class. Although I do not practice very often so I wouldn't give myself an "A+".
~Antonio M
I'd give myself an "A-" because I've been working really hard to keep up with the upper classmen in the trombone section, but I can make a few mistakes here and there. I try and practice whenever I can, which has lead to me forgetting my music at home. Which, as it turns out, can be a problem when it comes to band time. Who knew?
~Doodlez T.
I would give myself a B, because I don't really go home and practice, but I attend every class, I have attened every pep band so far, and i'm serious about band.
-Katherine Massimo-
I would give myself an B+ because I don't give Honors Wind Ensemble the proper amount of time and practice it needs. Its simply because I find myself so occupied with other groups and work that I hardly find time to put in the amount of practice I used to, and I can tell for myself how much it really shows. But I still put a lot of effort into it as well as do the best with what I can.
I give myself and A because I do everything im supposed to do to get the grade and I play the music im given to the best of my abilities.
I would give myself an "A-", because I don't practice as often as I should. But I do try in class and I do go to pep band. I've recently been getting more and more into music and I do plan on improving my musicianship. So, next year/semester...definitely an "A". :)
~Megan Brandenburger
I would give myself an a because im aklways prepared and ready to start playing. i also pratice all the time and come to most or all of the performances.
Michael Walker
I would give myself an A because i practice my music and (obviousley) do the bad bolg posts. i go to all of the pep bands and other performances.
Caroline R. Dorman
I wouldn't want to be to harsh on myself or to brash but I would give myself an I because I'm practicing every week and I'm doing everything that is required and putting in my best effort.
